Greetings Elijah and friends! I just listened to this podcast and greatly enjoyed your conversation. I have been reading, hearing homilies and lectures on this topic and points you made throughout the conversation, of coarse because we are in the season of Advent, but also I believe, because for the past few years I have been so enthused to really learn more about public revelations (scripture and tradition). God Had been introducing the topic of your conversation to me a lot to me lately. Everything you mentioned, Elijah, from scripture but might not have gone into depth about, I could follow and knew exactly what you were referring to. that’s exciting to me. Now I can reflect, privately about the questions you asked along with some of my own and find what God wants me to get out of it. Thank you!

Glad you enjoyed it Andrea! Thanks for listening. This has been the most puzzling but enriching Advent season for me in 18 years of celebrating Advent, because I've dug into the lectionary readings more and asked more questions about what God is doing through things like fire, earthquakes, famine, wars and threshing forks. All these images from John the Baptist and the last week of Jesus' life (which are the traditional gospel advent readings every year) somehow tie in to the cute little baby we celebrate in the manger at Christmas, but I have not been sure how. It has felt like shifting from 1st to 5th gear and very awkwardly. But Jesus' own image in Matthew 24:8 of birth pains (Advent) and birth (Christmas) has really helped me embrace how the themes of Advent and Christmas blend together. There is no birth without labor pain, but because of Jesus' labor pains (and now our participation in them by faith), we have new birth to celebrate ourselves. Jesus' birth is the only "birth that keeps on birthing" (John 3:7b). Have a blessed last week of Advent.

About the PodcastAnglicans at Breakfast Reading Scripture is back and has changed it's name to Anglicans on Zoom Reading Scripture (AoZ). Due to the pandemic this podcast took a hiatus for about a year. But thanks to the folks at Mission Resurrection Church in Moore County, the podcast has restarted with a few new hosts and the same familiar format. Archives
