Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THE SCHOOL'S NAME?
Resurrection School got its name from Jesus' resurrection from the dead. No other human in history has lived a perfect life without sin, faced death on a Roman cross and then been resurrected from the dead never to die again. Jesus' resurrection from the dead, as he foretold, sets him apart as Eternal King (Christ) and God. He is also the one who will raise us from the dead, if we trust him, and the one whom we are "growing up into." As Paul says in Ephesians 4:15, "Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ."

HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK WILL MY CHILD BE IN THE CLASSROOM?
Two full days (roughly 7 hours/day) per week are spent on campus, and three days are spent in the satellite classroom (the home) for grades K-6. Starting in 7th grade students will transition to 3 days/week on campus.
HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD MY CHILD EXPECT TO SPEND DOING SCHOOLWORK OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM?
As a general rule, your child should expect to spend about an hour outside the classroom for every hour spent inside the classroom, but each child is different based on his or her struggles and strengths.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UMS AND HOMESCHOOL CO-OPS?
The University-Model School is recognized as a private school by the NCDNPE (North Carolina Department of Non-Public Education). Children enrolled in a UMS are not considered homeschoolers. The UMS is also different by virtue of having specific grade levels, a full spectrum of courses complete with prerequisites and diploma plans, and a professional administration and faculty (much like a traditional school has) who partner with parents to teach their child at home the remaining days of the week. UMS was originally conceived to combine the best of the homeschool and Christian private school philosophy.
WILL I HAVE TO PREPARE LESSONS AND TEACH ON THE HOME DAYS?
Parents are referred to as 'co-teachers' in the University-Model. Don't let this terminology scare you! Professional educators will do all of the lesson-planning, preparation, and curriculum instruction. Your role as the co-teacher is best described as 'private tutor' in the elementary grades. You will help your child with work assigned and explained by the teacher, tutoring them in areas that may be more difficult. In junior high your role will become more of a 'guide', progressing to 'course monitor' in senior high. The goal of the UM is spiritual and academic independence, so your direct involvement will gradually decrease over time.
WHO RUNS THE SCHOOL?
Resurrection School would not be possible without a strong strategic partnership between Resurrection Church, committed families from the broader community and highly engaged administration and teachers who believe in the University School Model. Resurrection School is a ministry of Resurrection Church and the church's board of directors holds all fiduciary and legal responsibility, including paying teacher salaries, acquiring insurance and approving a budget for all school expenses. A paid administrator, once hired, will oversee and run day to day operations, including hiring teachers, interacting with parents and implementing policy. A parental advisory committee will help make decisions and set direction until an administrator and teachers are hired.
DOES RESURRECTION SCHOOL FULFILL NC STATE REQUIREMENTS?
Yes, we plan to be fully accredited and have set high academic standards that will be looked upon favorably by colleges. We are a member of UMSI (University-Model Schools International) formerly known as National Association of University Model Schools (NAUMS).
WHAT IF PARENTS DON'T HAVE HOMESCHOOLING OR TEACHING EXPERIENCE?
Parents need not have teaching experience. The teachers at Resurrection School are professionals who introduce and teach new concepts to students. They provide detailed assignments each week and maintain open lines of communication with the parents. Parents act as co-instructors under the guidance of the classroom teacher. In addition, we offer instruction to parents and partner with you as you help your children learn.
WILL THIS MODEL WORK FOR US IF BOTH PARENTS WORK FULL-TIME OUTSIDE THE HOME?
One of the most important ingredients in the success of the University-Model is an available parent who can assist and properly work with the student. For a family in which both parents work outside the home on a full-time basis a more traditional school is likely a better choice.
DO YOU OFFER SPORTS, ART AND MUSIC?
We plan to offer physical education, art, and music. Resurrection Church owns a 10 acre park next to the school, which will be available to students. We will consider having sports teams, as we grow into middle and high school.
DO YOU OFFER FOREIGN LANGUAGES?
We plan to offer Spanish as a foreign language.
WHAT ABOUT STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES?
We will talk with each family on a case by case basis, but we are likely not equipped to serve families of students with disabilities at this time.
Resurrections School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the admission process.
